Heat Aid Shows Warm Homes, Hearts, Souls

Move over Willie Nelson, the Keep Wisconsin Warm/Cool Fund’s Heat Aid concert series is on the road again.

Inspired by the Farm Aid concerts to help troubled family farmers that Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp started in 1985, KWW/CF is expanding its fundraising arsenal by adding Heat Aid shows to help those most in need the elderly and disabled and families with young children struggling, through no fault of their own, to survive Wisconsin’s bitter cold.

The first Heat Aid concert, held Nov. 7 at the High Noon Saloon, one of Madison’s premier music venues, showed the concept could work. Rachael Yamagata and the Hotel Cafe Tour drew enough of a crowd for KWW/CF to raise more than $1,200 through a percentage of ticket sales and a raffle at the event.

KWWF would like to thank Tag Evers of True Endeavors and Cathy Dethmers, High Noon Saloon owner, for generously helping to make KWW/CF’s first music event a success.

We would also like to thank the individuals and businesses who donated raffle prizes: Chris and Prentice Berge of Restaurant Magnus, Cargo Coffee, Cafe Continental, A Room of One’s Own, Frugal Muse, Ultrazone Laser Tag, American TV, Rayovac and Remington, and all of the customers and volunteers who gave so generously.

In January 2009, KWW/CF Rock for Warmth, the second Heat Aid concert, featured surf rock by Knuckel Drager at the High Noon Saloon. This raised over $1,400 to help Wisconsin families in need.

We would like to thank the individuals as well as the following businesses who donated raffle prizes: Anytime Fitness, Eldorado Grill, Guitar Center, Liliana’s, Putnam Roby Williams, Steve’s Tattoo, The Roman Candle Pizzeria and all of the customers and volunteers who gave so generously.

A big thank you to Tag Evers of True Endeavors and Cathy Dethmers, High Noon Saloon owner, for making the second Heat Aid concert another big success!
